General Questions
When should you use heat and when should you use ice?

Ice is normally recommended when swelling is present. This is usually in the early stages of an injury. The ice should be put on for 15 minutes and taken off for an hour before being reapplied. Heat is normally used for muscular injuries. Moist heat is usually better than dry heat and should be used for up to 30 minutes at a time. Caution should be taken to monitor the heat as it may cause burns on sensitive skin.

What is the difference between Chiropractic and Physiotherapy treatment?

In actual fact, all of these treatments are similar and can be effective. Each area specializes in a slightly different approach to pain and injury. Physiotherapy however, encourages a guided "self care" approach to recovery, whilst also administering hands on, pain relieving techniques. Physiotherapy tries to help the patients to restore the balance between the joints, muscle and posture. We use not only the manipulative techniques and electrical modalities; we also promote self management with home exercise for long term health.
